As announced by the project, the libjwt 3 is a complete overhaul of the code:

Not sure if works to make the module working for older version and the new one at the same time, or, like done for app_python, a new module has to be added for libjwt3.

For now I added more details in the docs of the module, I have no need for the module on distros with libjwt3 and no spare time to spend on developing it. If someone wants to work on it, a PR for the existing module or as a new module would be welcome.
