I would also say that at this point, almost all classical uses of MI that I know of can be met with RPC.
If, in removing MI for v5.0, something should be overlooked, I trust any howls of protest will expediently illuminate any small things that fell through the cracks. The major functionality for most modules is clearly there, though.
