I tried to reproduce, but in my case it printed <null>, it didn't crash.
However, it was an issue because the cfg var values were not updated. In your case might
have been some invalid default value there, resulting in a crash.
I pushed a patch to fix it -- can you test with commit
4404f75cf194e8fd727c2ffaeeea41d2193decf6 ?
