Thanks for the replies so far - Everyone has been very helpful. I
have one final question. I deleted the "ser" directory from /usr/sbin
as suggested. I am using Suse Linux 9.0 so then I modified the
"profile" file in the /etc directory with the following:
PATH="$PATH:/usr/local/sbin/ser:."
Then I carried out the cvs instructions from the iptel site (as
detailed at end of this mail) to install SER 0.9.1. When I run "ser
-V" I now see that SER has been updated. However when I run
/usr/local/sbin/serctl start to start SER. I get an error:
Starting SER: PID file /var/run/ser.pid does not exist -- SER start
failed.
I used to start SER using /etc/init.d/ser start. That also doesn't
work. What could be wrong? Also where is my new ser.cfg file stored?
My old one is still in /etc/ser.
Thanks again.
Aisling.

Hi serusers
another simple problem making me crazy. I can't get my NATed clients to send
ACKs and BYEs thru ser. After inviting another uac with ser taking care of
the relay (setting up rtpproxy and fixing nat), any other signaling message
doesn't even hit ser and gets lost.
My configuration is the following: I have ser running on a machine with only
private ip, but reachable from the internet via router public ip and port
forwarding. I noticed that the INVITE is sent by uacs to the right public ip
but then every other signal (ACKs, BYEs, CANCELs) is sent by uacs to ser
private ip.
Let me understand something more about ser, please. Any ideas why BYEs are
sent to private ip? Is ser forcing the uacs to modify sip header whith its
own ip? where is it doing this? maybe in record_route or in
fix_nated_contact?
Thanks in advance to everyone who will make some light on my doubts.
Here is the stripped ser.cfg
listen=192.168.1.100
if (nat_uac_test("3")) {
if (method == "REGISTER" || !search("^Record-Route:")) {
fix_nated_contact();
if (method == "INVITE") {
fix_nated_sdp("1");
};
force_rport();
setflag(6);
};
};
record_route();
if (loose_route()) {
route(1);
};
if (method=="INVITE") {
if (lookup("location")) {
setflag(1);
route(1);
break;
};
};
route[1] {
if (isflagset(6)){
force_rtp_proxy();
t_on_reply("1");
};
if (method == "BYE" || method == "CANCEL"){
setflag(1);
};
if (!t_relay()){
sl_reply_error();
};
break;
}

When I type "which ser". I get /usr/sbin/ser. How can I proceed from
here?. Thank you for the reply.

Hi all,
I am using the following network configuration.
HOST1---NAT---Internet---HOST2
HOST1 and HOST2 are windows XP machines with SJPhone software. The NAT box
has SIP ALG(Application Level Gateway), which modifies the SIP packets to
replace the Private IP address with the Public IP address.
I am registering with iptel.org proxy server using TCP from both the
machines. I am able to make a call from HOST1 to HOST2. But when i try to
make a call from HOST2 to HOST1, i get an error which says, "477
Unfortunately error on sending to next hop occurred(477/TM)". When I
register using UDP, then i do not see this problem. Could someone tell me
what I am missing here.
Thanks
Mahesh
Hi all !
I tried to compile the latest CVS-Version of ser but i get always the
same failure:
root@siiip:~/sip_router> make prefix=/usr/local all
"Makefile.sources", line 17: Missing dependency operator
"Makefile.sources", line 19: Need an operator
"Makefile", line 56: Missing dependency operator
Error expanding embedded variable.
I tried also different versions of ser but i get this failure everytime.
I'm using FreeBSD 5.3.
Can anyone help me ?
Thanks

Hi guys,
Does anybody have an experience with making X-lite more user-friendly
when after installing X-lite it asks for new user name and password
and sets X-lite ready to use for a call? Of course, already registered
with my SER router.
I know that FWD had this possibility.
Would anybody give me a hint what tool or software I need for this
task, please?
Thank you,
Lada
Hello,
I am still trying to change my SER version from 0.8.14 to 0.9.0. I
have
followed the instructions at the following link and also on the onsip
site.
http://www.iptel.org/ser/cvs/
However when I run ser -V, I still see that I'm running 0.8.14. I've
given an exact detail of what i do below and can someone PLEASE
PLEASE point out the mistake. Thank you.
cd /usr/src
export CVSROOT=:pserver:anonymous@cvs.berlios.de:/cvsroot/ser
cvs login
[enter for password]
Here I've tried both "cvs co sip_router" for unstable version and
"cvs co -r rel_0_9_0 sip_router" from onsip site.
cd sip_router
make all
make install
It says every file is updated but I still run the same stable
version. I've killed all ser processes before running this command
(killall ser)
Please let me know what Im doing wrong,
Aisling.

hi all
configuration:
inalp gw (pstn) ------> ser ------> asterisk (only voicemail)
the following problems occur:
1) ser forwards the call to asterisk (if the user is in the voicemail
group) if the client does not answer after 30 sec.
from sip to sip is working.
but if a call comes from the pstn to a sip client, the client rings and
hangs up after 30 sec. ser then forwards it to the asterisk, but the pstn
call keeps on ringing and no voicemail is to hear.
ser writes the following error

2) if ua1 call ua2 (and ua2 is in the voicemail group) and ua1 hangs up

does anyone know about these problems?

Hi,
I have record-route set from 200 OK for INVITE as
Record-Route: <sip:pu3@P3.com:5060;lr>
Record-Route: <sip:pu2@P2.com:5060;lr>
Record-Route: <sip:pu1@P1.com:5060>
Contact:<sip:u@UA.com:5060>
As the last record-route header doesn't have lr param(P1 might be expecting strict routing), in this combination can I send the ACK/BYE requests to sip:u@UA.com:5060 directly?
Is it possible to follow strict routing even though I get lr param?
While I was interoperating with sipgate.de (SIP express router)
I got ftag param and lr param in 200 OK, I was trying to send ACK/BYE requests to
record-route URI instead of final destination. Iam not getting any response for BYE.
Please help me.
regards,
SIPIT
