Hi all,
i've just setup a new Debian repository on the devel.openser.org machine. It
replaces the old offering of daily debian packages from the trunk for several
debian releases [1]. This new repository provides a more convinient method for
keeping track of the bleeding edge of the OpenSER development with standard
Debian system administration tools like apt-get.
I extend the supported distributions too, now also packages for debian testing
(i386 and amd64) are build. With the help of this service its really easy for
you to test new features in the trunk and provide feedback *hint, hint*. ;-)
Just add some lines [2] (depending on your system version) to your
"/etc/apt/sources.list" file, do an "apt-get update" and you can
install (or update to) the fresh code direct from the trunk. :-) I also
provided a repository key, to stop the security complains from apt.. [3]
Please keep in mind that this packages are only provided for testing, and
_not_ for use in production environments! The update cycle is daily, just as
for the old service. Let me know if you encounter any issues.
Have fun,
Henning

You were right, it was the proxy. I had forgotten to export HTTP_PROXY in my environment variable of user root (as I start OpenXCAP as root).
Now it works and I can continue to configure it.
Thank

Yes, indeed, this might be a problem.
The server needs to get the XML scheme from the internet. As you cannot pass proxy settings to OpenXCAP (at least afaik) there might be the problem. It cannot connect and get the file for validation (what is also told by the error message).
Try it without proxy - if possible - just to eliminate that potential cause.

Hi Sebastian,
Thank for your answer.
I think the problem doesn't come from the internet connection because my server is connected to it but behind a proxy, maybe a problem ?

Seems all requirements for install are there as it shows it's starting. Check http://www.openxcap.org/wiki/Running if you find some useful hints maybe there.

Hi...
I am using the openser 1.1.0 and I would like get a substring of FROM...
For example, I have the code in my script:
----------------------------------------------------------
avp_write("$fU","$avp(s:777)");
avp_print();
----------------------------------------------------------
And it shows in the log:
----------------------------------------------------------
5(6249) INFO: name=<777>
5(6249) INFO: val_str=<4830353131 / 10>
----------------------------------------------------------
Is possible I get only the first and the second char (in this case is 48) of $fU???
Are there some way?
Thanks.....

Hi,
I am using OpenSER since a few months, but only with basic functionality,
i.e. no Presence, Message-waiting functionality, XCAP etc. I configured the
server with MySQL on the same machine and I am able to add new users using
the openserctl script as:
/usr/local/sbin/openserctl add user password user@domain
Now, I wish to include Presence functionality to see the status of users on
client side. Thus, I loaded the module presence.so and also presence_xml.so.
I also uncommenetd other features in openser.cfg that are required for
presence funcionality:
# ----- presence params -----
modparam("presence|presence_xml", "db_url",
"mysql://user:pwd@domain/openser")
modparam("presence_xml", "force_active", 1)
modparam("presence", "server_address", "sip:ip:port")
modparam("presence", "presentity_table", "presentity")
modparam("presence", "active_watchers_table", "active_watchers")
modparam("presence", "watchers_table", "watchers")
modparam("presence", "clean_period", 100)
modparam("presence", "to_tag_pref", 'megs')
#modparam("presence", "lock_set_size", 8)
modparam("presence", "expires_offset", 10)
modparam("presence", "max_expires", 3600)
modparam("presence", "fallback2db",1)
#------------------------------------------------------
However, now if I try to start openser using the command :
/usr/local/sbin/openser start,
I see that all modules are loaded and my connection "user:pwd@domain/openser"
is in the pool. It also displays that all modules have successfully
connected to the database. After this when I try to run:
/usr/local/lib/openser/openserctl/openserctl start
It displays:
database engine 'MYSQL' loaded
control engine 'FIFO' loaded
INFO: Starting OpenSER:
ERROR: PID file /var/run/openser.pid does not exist -- OpenSER start failed
There is no file openser.pid on the path "/var/run/". But previously, I was
able to start openser successfully.
I also tried starting openser by: /etc/init.d/openser start
But it just says:
Starting Openser: [FAILED]
Can anyone please tell me how to solve this bug. Where can I find
openser.pid file?
If not this, then please tell me if I am doing some configuration mistake.
Another thing, I see that when I am running my client, I am still able to
Register to the server and I am gettin 200OK for REGISTER message. I find it
strange!
I can see that I have all the tables required for "presence" in the openser
database, i.e. presentity, active_watchers etc.
Also, when I am using SUBSCRIBE-NOTIFY messages on client side, I get 202
Accepted from the server when the other user is online and 404 NOT FOUND
when the user is offline. But I see that all tables in 'openser' database
are empty except subscriber table in which I can easily make entries using
'openserctl' script file. I find it strange that how my server is keeping
the information of the online users when all databse tables are empty.
Ideally, it should keep an entry of availabe users in "location" table, but
that table is also empty even though I have written in openser.cfg file:
modparam("usrloc","db_mode",2)
to enable DB persistency for location entries.
Please anyone help me clear the doubts, as I need to complete the presence
module soon due to strich deadlines. I have been workin on it since 2 weeks
already! :(
Do I need to have XCAP server necessarily to implement simple presence
status using SUBSCRIBE-NOTIFY messages?
Thanks in advance,
Megs
Hi all,
i am currently using openser 1.3.2 with MySQL DB and serMyAdmin as user
portal. i configured my openSER to use the hashed passwords while
authenticating the users. my issue is that i do not want to store the user
password in clear in my DB. can anyone tell me how to do it? i just want to
store the hashed password.
thanks in advance.

Its a known problem with the acc module for this version, look here:
http://www.openser.org/dokuwiki/doku.php/troubleshooting:faq#qerroraccinit_…

For the basics you could read the OpenSER book [1].
You should also take a look at the core cookbook in the wiki and read the
module documentation of some basic modules (sl, tm, usrloc, registrar..). In
the wiki and the homepage you find also some links to different documentation
resources, if you don't want to buy the book/ for more detailed informations.
Cheers,
Henning
