you will find answers to these kind of questions in rfc3261. it would be fair if you would first try to find answers to your questions from the spec and if not successful, ask help from the list. for your particular question above, please read section 12 of rfc3261. it is better to use jan's resources on writing code than on repeating what rfc3261 says.
