That's what I tried, too. But the problem was that I only saw 96 Bytes of
the BYE Message (well, I like the ngrep solution more than searching the
answer of this ;-)

Or maybe you can also do a tcpdump on your ser machine, applying the
appropriate filter and save it on a file and open it with ethereal.
