For www_authorize(), it's $td. For everything else (proxy_challenge()), it's $fd.
I guess git and wiki were not available, so you couldn't update ;-)
It turned out that only the *_auth...() functions from auth_db were not updated, *_challenge() functions from auth module had the readme updated. It is the same case for radius functions from auth_radius.
