The serctl script uses some non-sh specific features (like attempt=$(($attempt + 1))). Try to change #!/bin/sh to #!/bin/bash (or #!/usr/local/bin/bash) or try to replace all the lines of the form a=$(($a+1) with a=`expr $a + 1`.
This will be fixed on cvs.
