It is open source and it is distributed under the terms of the GPL.
Anything you can find in the CVS is under GPL and opensource. That's
the policy for accepting code into the main source tree. Also authors
of the code should respond to questions regarding their code on this
list.
Regarding support, it is in the terms of GPL that the code comes with
no warranty. That means, if you have a problem or need some advice,
you can ask on this mailing list. If you get no anwer or the answer is
not sufficient, then you can ask for commercial support.
