That would be an interesting experiment. I was originally using NetSNMP
5.3.1 on my system, but I downloaded the source for 5.4 and rebuilt
NetSNMP and OpenSER to see if I could reproduce your problem. So far I
can't reproduce it.
When you installed NetSNMP, was it from source or from binaries?
