Move the lookup("aliases") into the main route block after your uri=myself check. I suspect the alias add problem goes away. This is because the lookup ("alias") command must be "hit" in your routing logic in order for the memory resident alias table to be built.

I don't understand why because I think that the table does exist, because when I introduce the command ser_mysql.sh backup all the tables appear but the aliases one is empty.
