This is
equivalent to @msg[%s] (so there is no error in this case).
E.g. @msg["P-Foo"] is equivalent with @msg.P-Foo.
i tried
$var(calling_uri) = @msg.Referred-By.nameaddr.uri;
and got syntax errors:

just to add,
