That's true. But the counter question would be: are you sure that you need any kind of load balacing? In more details: how big is your user population and how many calls per second do you expect?
And with DNS srv records, you may at least have some level of load balancing. You may also try DNS round robin if you want, to have some level of load balancing. If it works with the database for registration, location etc is another question.
