Try the following:
/usr/sbin/ser -c -f /etc/ser/ser.cfg -E -dddddd
(replace /usr/sbin/ser with your actual path to ser binary, it might be
/usr/local/sbin/ser, depending on how you did install it, and
/etc/ser/ser.cfg with the path to your ser.cfg).
-E will force logging to stderr and -dddddd will increase the debug
level.
