during my pstn gateway survey, some people asked about cheap PSTN gateways. Let me share what I know, speak up if you know more.
analog ------- AudioCodes and AlliedTelesyn provide SIP FXO gateways wuith four ports for about $1000. We have both of them in our lab (i.e., they do exist) but haven't tested them yet (i.e., we don't know if they work).
MediaTrix might have some too, perhaps sightly cheaper, but they denied shipping to us as we are not in their interoperability club (which makes me cautios about their interoperability).
arrayvox was claiming to have some very cheap ones, but I neither know if they shop nor if they work. The same for welltech.
in general, not only is a challenge to make the sip part of it work, but also the analog -- tone recoginition may be pretty challenging. It differs country from country and pbx from pbx.
digital ------- I don't know -- some people meant Asterisk would do that, some other meant not really.
other ----- someone told me vegstream (both digital and analog) was good and afforable. more can be found at http://www.iptel.org/info/products/index.php?category=gateway&name=Gatew...

Hi,
I have been interested in the Mediatrix 1204. It is about US$500 and has 4 FXO ports. If anybody has tested it please let me know.
Thanks, Ricardo

hi everybody,
i had installed ser on linx and able to chat and call between two sip users of the same server. Now i want to develop a gateway between My local IM to SER. For this, do i need to install jabber server? I think i need to install jabber-1.4.2-1.i386.rpm. I found many other rpm's like jabber-msn, jabber-yahoo etc. Which one i need to install? And what for these? If i want to make our IM to chat with other servers, shall i need to write one more jabber-myIM rpm like jabber-msn? Please make us clear about this issue ASAP.
Thanks and regds vijay
Hello,
I am not sure I understand what you are trying to achieve. Do you want to create a gateway for some proprietary IM system ? If so then you will have to develop your own module for ser (similar to jabber module).
If you want just SIP 2 Jabber gateway then you will have to use jabber module and install the jabber server.

i bought one quite some time ago and they never fixed the sip bugs that i found it in, so i had to return the box and ask my money back. i don't know if the company or the product has become any better since then. also, the box had a noisy fan.
i would recommend cisco ata if two analog ports are enough. its sip implementation is the best what cisco has in any product and fixes have been prompt.
