Colin,
Your problem is the result of possibly two things. You may not have
mysql support on your PHP. Make sure that you have mysql support,
otherwise PHP will not have the necessary functions. Check out
http://www.php.net/manual/en/installation.php
The second thing that could be wrong is that you haven't enabled
mysqlp_connect() in your php.ini. To see if this is set go to your
php.ini and make sure the following is set.
[MySQL]
; Allow or prevent persistent links.
mysql.allow_persistent = On
...
