Hi,
I would like to make a survey to see if people will consider a nice policy to give to the further openser releases not only version numbers, but also names.
If so, I would like to be the first to suggest a name for the upcoming openser 1.3 release -"blackcat" (mainly because of the 13 version :D ).
Any other suggestions or comments on the topic are welcomed.
Thanks and regards, Bogdan
Hello to All . In adv marry X-mas...to all OpenSER's Users.
For the Eve of X-mas , so Suggest the name as OpenSER 1.3 - " SantaCurz".....

Hi, Bogdan
Your suggestion is interesting, but I would like more something that could give a collection of names... Like Eclipse, which use Jupiters moons names... Something that could expose about 5~10 names to be picked...
What about the "seven deadly sins"? There latin names are: Luxuria, Gula, Avaritia, Acedia, Ira, Invidia, Superbia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_Deadly_Sins
After all, not using OpenSER is a sin... :)
Or, can anybody mount a "lucky-related" collection names?
Edson
Hi Edson,
Thanks for suggestion - interesting I would say :D. I will add it at the list to be voted by the community. My only comment on this is it might be difficult for people to remember (and pronounce) as there are not based on common naming. Latin is not easy for everybody ;)

Hi, Bogdan
Just to clarify a little bit, the collection idea is to be able to pick one name for each new major release... ;)
<joke> And well, as Walter sugested, Dracula is well known, but latin names are more 'universal' (as more modern languages derived from latin)... like english for the ancient times, or french for the 19 century, or... :) </joke>

Although I prefer version numbers names are fine with me as long as the version number is authoritative.
i have similar opinion. i'm not quite sure what bogdan is proposing to use names for. debian, for example, use names when you access a certain version in repository. i prefer that openser svn tree is based on version numbers rather than names.

Hi Juha, Hi Klaus,
Just to clarify - the version numbering will be kept as so far - the change is actually an addition - each major release will also have a name...
There will be no impact on packaging or SVN or anything else - I was just thinking to some more friendly way of referring to the major release during the discussions :).
So, 1.3 will be OpenSER 1.3 "BlackCat" :)

"BlackCat" is an interesting name and easy to remember. By the way, what's names of openser 1.0, 1.1, 1.2? When will 1.3 be officially released? Will the examples (web_im) included with source package work ?About two months before, I found the examples web_im in 1.2.1-tls didn't work, you said you would update the examples for the next release (the preparations will start with 1st of October). So I just want to know how.
Thanks in advance.

this is an intresting idea to manage the name easily
BlackCAT is the good name..
if you consider me in, i suggest more powerfull and robust name like "Cheetah"

Hi all,
First, just to clarify - I start thinking at a name (for each release) mainly as a label underlining some particularity of the release; then, this name should be in English to be easy for everybody.
There were a lot of suggestions and comments regarding the name, but all failed to establish a relation between the name and openser or to be a world wide acceptable word.
My suggestion for "BlackCat" was following the superstitions around the "13" number (as we have release 1.3). I think it is also a simple name, easy to remember, and why not, funny :) (also I like to challenge the superstitions :P).
So, following the rules: 1) the name should be obviously related to the 1.3 release 2) the name should be in English 3) the name should be easy to remember
I still wait to see if there are any other valid suggestion for a name. In the same time, if there are comments against the "BlackCat" name, feel free to speak up.
Let's try to close this subject during the next week, by Friday.
