I have a situation where the user passwords are encrypted by SHA in the LDAP database. And I'm kind of blink about what to do. Maybe the database could not be modified.

Well, as I wrote, that's a no-go. Your only chance is to somehow get hold of the clear-text password (for example when users log in through a web site) and create an MD5 hash that you store in a separate attribute. Sorry, g-)
