Hello,
I want to build a system that will allow to make SIP calls between IPv4-only UAs and IPv6-only UAs.
Has anybody tryd this before? Any success? Is it possible with SER? In the RTP-streams between the IPv4-UA and the IPv6-UA there must be a "black box" converting the IPv6 stream to a IPv4 stream and vice versa. Could this be a back-to-back server? Are there any other ways?
Thanks for any help Armin
Hi Armin,
I was trying with IPv6 for sometime due to the NAT headache in IPv4. That goes with another story in conversion from IPv6 to IPv4. Registering with a IPv6 tunneling server. Install tunneling client. Opening the ports in the router. ( I'm behind firewall ) Atlast I could make it to work only to ping my own machine.
I think it should work find with DMZ mode.

If you are using something like freenet6 for the tunneling then it will probably not work very well because the tunnel adds big delay.

Look at the portaone RTP proxy, it could be used as a black box. There's some comments in the readme. http://www.voip-info.org/wiki-Portaone+RTPproxy
I think SER with portaone could be a good choice. If Asterisk had IPv6 support, it would also work.
Good luck, keep us posted on your progress.

I extended Maxim's RTP proxy to support IPv6, so it can be used also as IPv4-IPv6 translator.
SER itself does support IPv6, currently the only missing piece is rewriting of SDP with IPv6 addresses (When you detect that IPv4/IPv6 tranversal is necessary, you have to rewrite IPs in SDP). Nathelper can be used to rewrite SDP, but only with IPv4, we would have to extend it for IPv6.
Signalling (except SDP rewriting) works.
