I am not sure if serctl start/stop works well. I would recommend to use the standard startup scripts for your distribution. They are typically in /etc/ini.d on SysV based systems (debian, redhat, fedora).

I have been following this list for a while now. It is my observation that the mySQL setup part is a major issue for practically everyone. I went through "a very tough time" the first time around, myself. I am therefore volunteering to do a MySQL-Ser Database Howto. What this is going to entail will be how to setup mySQL client and server properly for a start, how to generate the appropriate tables, how to check and ensure that the appropriate users and permissions are set. After that someone else can take over from there. I am currently compiling my notes on Fedora Core 3. I will be happy to release my notes as I go along or wait and release at completion. Please comment.
Cheers

Kofi, If you suggest changes, improvements, or additions to the ONsip.org document, we will be happy to take them. I'm not sure if another mysql setup document is really needed, but if you are thinking about a mysql specific tutorial for those who know nothing about mysql, that's probably useful for some. BTW, did you have all these problems using the ONsip.org document, config files, and Getting Started source package?? g-)
