Have you configured sendmail?
If you tail /var/log/maillog do you see sendmail try to send?

When you send to example.com do you have a destination pop/imap server running on the same localhost?
I mean does example.com resolve to something and is there an MX record for it?
In your sems.conf you have smtp_server=serveur1.example.com is that your localhost and does sendmail have somewhere to put it?
If not it will stay where it is.
