The sip_trace table has a field called traced_user. This is undocumented,
and I am finding that this field is empty in the table. Is this currently
unused, or is there something I need to turn on?

forgotten in documentation. I added it now:
http://www.openser.org/docs/modules/1.2.x/siptrace.html#AEN109
You can enable it if you need to have recorded messages associated to an
user (it will make the search easier in some cases).
