Just curious to know, Does this codec support depends on the actual hardware or the firmware?

grandstream and snom, for example, have iLBC support. i have been told that iLBC is also on sipura roadmap, but who knows what will happen to that after the cisco deal. i have also heard rumors that iLBC support is coming to cisco ios, mainly because iLBC was chosen for cable tv terminals.
