The normal way to start/sop ser is: using a startup script
/etc/init.d/ser start
or
/etc/init.d/ser stop
There are several tools which can be used to monitor ser and if ser
fails, they can restart ser. e.g. you can use 'mon'.

Hi Klaus,
Is there any daemon which will keep the ser server living?
BTW, what is the normal way to start and stop.
Thanks
John

I guess you haven't installed all the mysql
libraries, maybe some
php_mysql stuff is missing.
$ php -v
will give you your version!
