Due to a known limitation in the Cisco IOS, it is not possible to restrict the duration of
a call on a Cisco gateway. Since I have been hit by this a couple of times - one time
having 6 timeslots on an E1 open for 3 days - I would like to hear any suggestions on how
to remedy this utilizing the SER.

Cisco IOS branch 12.2T supports two features to avoid this problem:
Session Timer:

That's not a job of a proxy server. Proxy server is a scalable server that
maintains no session state. To limit call duration you would need to use
a call-stateful element, a B2BUA.
