Hi!
I really do not understand why so many people think that the name should include the word "open" or should somehow include parts of the protocol (SIP) or its usage (server, proxy ...).
If I take a look at very successful open source projects they do not follow this, e.g. Apache, Eclipse, Pidgin, Wireshark, Asterisk, Tomcat, Boost ...

Good point.
OTOH, I think that the compulsion to name the project in a way that is more directly reflective of its technical dimension arises from the fact that the purpose is rather esoteric and specialised, and caters to a more conservative technical audience.
If I had to guess how people feel based on the initial reaction.. What's the best way/most efficient way to suggest a new name?
I'd also be willing to do at least a one time help with the rename process as I'm sure others are probably pretty burnt out on this issue by now. Was the original effort just sed (find/replace) the occurrences and then a manual scan of files/code.. ? It's a pretty unique word now so shouldn't be hard to find..
Thanks
