Hi,
There is a SIP client from Siemens called SCS-Client: http://mysip.ch/index.html
Has anybody ever tried to use the SCS-Client with SER? According to its specification, it can provide audio, video, presence and IM functions much similar to MS's Windows Messenger 5.0.
Since the IM part of Messenger 5.0 can only work correctly with MS's Live Communications server, I was just trying to find another client with similar features that can work with SER.
Thanks, Kevin
Hi Kevin!
Yes, SCS Client works fine with SER...
...unless you are behind a NAT.
The NAT helper module does not translate the Video Streams (actually it translates only the first media line in the SDP). The other problem is, that SCS does not support symetric media streams (sending the RTP streams from the same ports than receiving). I have informed the people at SIEMENS abot this issue.
cheers, Bernie

A Trial License (30 or 60 days valid) is free of charge.

Hi Bernie,
I tried to install the client and it offered me the trial license, which I selected. It then came back to the same dialog again...I selected the trial license again and it told me that I cannot do that...
So, I installed, but the trial license stuff has a glitch *or* perhaps I have installed software in the past that uses the same trial license stuff??
Anyway, I sent an email to the contact at the company to see if there is something that can be done so I can test it. It looks like a great piece of software!

Hi Greg,
I got the same problem as you did, and still waiting for response from the contact person.
One of the feature I like for the SCS client is that it can show the capabilities of your buddies just on the buddy list. Another one is it can select the IM in either secure (TLS) or insecure mode per connection. However, TLS is only supported by the Advanced and Professional versions as claimed.
Of course, we still need the SIP server/service to support TLS for using that feature. Is ser/iptel.org supporting of planning to support TLS in the public domain?
I think the demand for secured IM over public domain is getting higher, and I personally would like to see the service similar to Yahoo business IM but based on SIP.
Regards, Kevin

yes, we will introoduce TLS to public SIP services at iptel shortly.

Absolutely.

FYI
I just found on http://www.mysip.ch/ that the problem with the trial licence generation has been fixed in the latest version of the SCS Client.

Hi Greg!
Below some more information about the costs of the SCS-Client. I first was not sure whether the information I got from SIEMENS earlier was confidential or not...
On Thu, 8 Jan 2004, Greg Fausak wrote:

There are three verisons: Basic, Advanced and Professional
Advanced has additional Secure Chat and Secure File Transfer
Professional has additional CIF Video Support and more cofiguration options to optimize bandwith.
The costs as I got informed from SIEMENS some time ago (might not be valid anymore):
Amount of Licences: | 1 [ 3 [ 10 [ 30 [ 100 [ >100 ------------------------------------------------------------------- Basic | 99 [ 249 [ 649 [ 1500 [ 4000 [ on request Advanced | 249 [ 649 [ 1499 [ 4000 [ 10000 [ " Professional | 399 [ 999 [ 2499 [ 7000 [ 18000 [ "
Prices are given in EURO. For research purposes you might get a discount.
It is kind of odd, that one cannot find such information on their webpages; I don't know the reason why they have not published it there.
Greetings, Bernie
