Depending on what you’re trying to accomplish, you could intercept the negative reply (if a negative reply is what you’re trying to change) in a failure_route and use send_reply() to send back an entirely different reply to the caller, functionally altering the status/reason.

Just to add the obvious solution as well, the change_reply_status(..) could be adapted to support pseudo-variables. But of course, this needs some code extensions.
