Some ideas: 1. For calls from PSTN to SIP use ENUM to map E164 number into SIP addresses 2. For calls from SIP to PSTN insert a Remote-Party-Id for each SIP account. For calls without Remote Party-Id you may decide to block them or assigned special CLI at the gateway Both are operator controlled and cannot be impersonated by end users. Usually the PSTN gateway receives the username as From/Contact, and the gateway will use probably the first number in its routing table or a number defined by the Telco for calls without a Calling number entry. [Serusers] phone behind nat calling someone with cpl script

Hi, I have a phone behind nat trying to call someone with cpl script. The script does the proxy. So cpl module looks up the location table and forwards the INVITE. So it doesn't have a chance to call rtpproxy. Is it possible to call rtpproxy before forwarding the call? Is it even possible to use cpl with nated clients? Having used both rtpproxy and mediaproxy for quite sometime, here's my bits - (NOTE - I used rtpproxy a few months back - and a few changes might have occured during these few months - so some of my comments may be inaccurate). 1. When I used rtporoxy a few months back, it would not allow chaining two or more rtpproxies and I had to hack the code to make it work that way. To me this is a very important feature. If you are talking of a telco grade VoIP product, having control over the RTP stream is very very important - legal interception for example (I am sure one day our regulatory bodies or the government will force some requirement on this), prevent terminating SIP session and yet continuing the RTP session, privacy etc. And the only way you can have control over the RTP stream is by forcing it go via your rtpproxy/mediaproxy. So I think rtpproxy/mediaproxy has a purpose beyond the nathelper functionality. Mediaproxy can do that already. I am not sure of what changes have happened since I last used rtpproxy - but if this feature is still missing, it will be great to have this feature included. 2. Loadbalancing is important - particularly if you are thinking of proxing hundreds of calls at any instant. Mediaproxy gives this feature. I would like to see this in rtpproxy. 3. While using rtpproxy, when you terminate a call, SER does not send a message to the rtpproxy to terminate the rtp-stream associated with that call. Rather, rtpproxy sits there waiting and eventually times out. This is not good - there should be a tighter control. 4. rtpproxy is written in C. I like it - maybe because I am a bit more familiar with C. mediaproxy is written in python, and that makes me a bit uncomfortable about performance issues - although I have seen some earlier posting saying that the performance difference isn't much. But I can't say much on this until I do my own testing. [Serusers] Using Asterisk as mediagateway with or without rtpproxy

Hi again :) Got one more question about using a mediagateway. Right now I've got everything configured that SER relays the call to our mediagateway (asterisk) when necessary. The mediagateway is also on a public IP, but only accepting UDP port 5060 connections from the SER proxy. (We use RP (reverse path) filtering on our routers, so the IP address cannot be spoofed). Come to think of it, I can additionally also filter on MAC address since both machines are in the same LAN.. I read that a lot of people use an RTP proxy for forwarding the RTP traffic to the gateway (which in turn is in a private net). My question is: Is my setup less secure than using the RTP proxy ? I have followed the instructions from the radius howto. and i have radius authentication working. i've double checked the dictionary.ser files and they are the same as the sip_router/etc/dictionary.ser i still get this error. 0(0) ERROR: acc: can't get code for the Sip-Method attribute 0(0) init_mod(): Error while initializing module acc any other idea's it works fine when i use the mysql accounting. any help would be appreciated.
